New Palestine has gone 9-1 against Greenfield-Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Dragons will welcome the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. New Palestine is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
New Palestine is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Roncalli, who was ranked eighth at the time (New Palestine was ranked first). The Dragons narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Royals 4-3. Four seems to be a good number for the Dragons as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Tessa Mohr looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, New Palestine's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Saydie Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Miller has posted since back in April. Jersi Gross was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenfield-Central). Everything went their way against New Castle on Monday as they made off with a 14-1 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Tovaria Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Charlotte Riehle was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kristen Wineinger, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Greenfield-Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
New Palestine's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. As for Greenfield-Central, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Greenfield-Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Palestine has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Greenfield-Central, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given New Palestine's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
New Palestine took their victory against Greenfield-Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
