Basketball Recap: Regents Academy Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Regents Academy waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They took down the Athens Christian Preparatory Academy Storm 55-36. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 65-17 last Friday.

Regents Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonah Shipp, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Shipp is becoming a predictor of Regents Academy's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 2-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Stephen Crescenzo, who posted four points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.

Regents Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They pulled down 12 more offensive boards than Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's also-impressive total of 12.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Runte, who scored 14 points and four steals. Runte is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Lance Compton was another key player, putting up 14 points and five boards.

Regents Academy pushed their record up to 7-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points over those games. As for Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-22.
