3A Big South recap Oct. 3, 2012
Crest was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating A.C. Reynolds 65-15. The Chargers came in at 18 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
South Point extended the longest winning streak in 3A Big South this week by beating Ashbrook, 30-13. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Red Raiders.
The Green Wave's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tre Brice threw for 204 and one touchdown and Grant Stafford had 107 yards receiving. On the ground Tylik Roberts chipped in 31 yards. EJ Vanderpuye helped Ashbrook's passing attack out by catching four balls for 103 yards.
Kings Mountain's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mountaineers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jonathan Clark has thrown for 954 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Xavier Johnson has 21 catches for 359 yards. Dashan Guest leads the league in rushing with 554 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Crest takes on North Gaston. Mark Barnes's team's offense has racked up 202 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Wildcats have allowed only 239 on the year.
A big matchup in 3A Big South this week will be when South Point takes on Forestview. As it stands, John Devine's team is in first, while the Jaguars are in fourth.
The Chargers took down the Rockets 65-15 last week, the largest margin of any game.
