The Delano Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the McFarland Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Delano waltzed into their match on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Wasco, posting a 71-34 victory at home.
Delano's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Juan Lopez, who scored seven points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Ibrahim Shuwait, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Rg Garcia was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, McFarland put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 81-52 win over Kennedy. Given McFarland's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 1124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Delano is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. As for McFarland, their win bumped their record up to 21-7.
Delano came up short against the Cougars in their previous matchup back in January, falling 43-37. Can Delano avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
