Kaelyn Musser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Peebles saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Myers, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Clay made easy work of Oak Hill on Friday and carried off a 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 13 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Laney Shepherd made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Shepherd was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 13 games.
In other batting news, Clay got a massive performance out of Elin Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Shaw has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Lunsford, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Clay has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Peebles, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Peebles hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Clay struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Peebles skirted past Clay 3-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
