The Spring Lake Lakers will challenge the Hart Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Monday, Spring Lake made easy work of Holland and carried off a 17-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lakers.
Khloe Melinn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Melinn was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Spring Lake got a massive performance out of Tessa Britt, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Cheyenne Lyons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Spring Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hart came out on top against Kent City on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Eagles. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Kelsey Copenhaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Leah Walker and Nora Chickering did most of the damage at the plate: Walker went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Chickering went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Maryn Klotz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Hart's victory bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Spring Lake, their win bumped their record up to 10-14.
