The Midview Middies will challenge the Keystone Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Midview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
While Midview's victory against Avon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Middies had just enough and edged out the Eagles 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Middies.
Savannah Holcomb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Midview's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nina Ballachino, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Keystone, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over Black River on Monday. Considering the Wildcats have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Bristol Foster, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Brooklyn Modock was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Keystone always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Black River only posted an OBP of .364.
Keystone's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Midview, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Midview has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Keystone struggles in that department as they've averaged .493. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midview might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Keystone when the teams last played back in April of 2018. Will the Middies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
