Baseball Recap: Hoopeston's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hoopeston had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 6-15 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Cissna Park Timberwolves as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Cornjerkers' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Brayden Cornelius made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Judy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Hoopeston is 5-1 when Judy posts two or more runs, but 1-14 otherwise. Dallas Sheppard was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Hoopeston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cissna Park only posted an OBP of .400.

As for Cissna Park, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On Cissna Park's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jream Renteria, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoopeston will host Schlarman at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cornjerkers are facing the Hilltoppers at the right time seeing as the Hilltoppers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cissna Park, they will take on Oakwood at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Comets will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Timberwolves surely won't give up without a fight.
