The Limestone Rockets will face off against the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Limestone is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Limestone after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 11-6 to Dunlap. The loss continues a trend for the Rockets in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.
Alec Williams made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Gavin Kleist, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Deer Creek-Mackinaw got themselves on the board against Fieldcrest on Monday, but Fieldcrest never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Lucas Holly's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He has become a key player for Deer Creek-Mackinaw: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 3-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Parker Eggenberger was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Swadinsky, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Limestone, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Limestone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Deer Creek-Mackinaw struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Limestone's way against Deer Creek-Mackinaw when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Limestone made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chiefs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
