Eastern Greene hasn't had much luck against Sullivan recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will square off against the Golden Arrows at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Eastern Greene didn't have quite enough to beat Clay City and fell 3-2. While the Thunderbirds didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eels 25-21 in the first set.
Eastern Greene took Clay City into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Leila Quimby, who had 16 digs and one assist. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierington Wyatt, who had seven digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Sullivan made easy work of Cloverdale on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Golden Arrows in their matchups with the Clovers: they've now won seven in a row.
Sullivan never let Cloverdale on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-11, 26-24, 25-11.
Eastern Greene's defeat dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Sullivan, their victory bumped their record up to 22-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Eastern Greene has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Sullivan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Eastern Greene couldn't quite get it done against Sullivan when the teams last played back in August as they fell 2-0. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
