The Elmwood-Murdock Knights entered their tilt with the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Elmwood-Murdock took their contest on the road on Saturday with ease, bagging a 62-29 victory over Sumner-Eddyville-Miller. Elmwood-Murdock's victory was all the more impressive since Sumner-Eddyville-Miller was averaging only 27.5 points allowed on the season.
Elmwood-Murdock got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tatum Backemeyer out in front who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney "laney" Frahm, who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, ten rebounds, and nine assists.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taryn Arbuthnot, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Arbuthnot's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mikah O'Neill, who scored nine points.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Elmwood-Murdock's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their loss dropped their record down to 11-1.
Elmwood-Murdock will be playing in front of their home fans against Conestoga at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is on the road again on Saturday and play against Pleasanton at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th.
