Cheyenne and Desert Pines are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Cheyenne Desert Shields will head out on the road to face off against the Desert Pines Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Cheyenne took care of business in their home opener on Monday (and then some). They really took it to Chaparral for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-3 win at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-1.
Elissa Sambo was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 14 points along with 5 steals. Another player making a difference was Nita Franklin, who scored 13 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Desert Pines humbled Eldorado with a 58-8 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Desert Pines.
Desert Pines can attribute much of their success to Alanna Jackson, who scored 16 points. Taveah Oliver was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 3 steals.
Cheyenne's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Desert Pines, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Cheyenne was dealt a bruising 68-28 loss at the hands of Desert Pines in their previous meeting back in January. Can Cheyenne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
