The Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies are taking a road trip to take on the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Johnstown-Monroe comes in on three and Mt. Vernon on six.
Johnstown-Monroe took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Newark Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Johnnies had just enough and edged out the Green Wave 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Johnnies have posted since April 12th.
Landon Myers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Johnstown-Monroe's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carter Holbrook, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Holbrook has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon made easy work of Dublin Coffman on Saturday and carried off a 10-4 victory. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kayden Packard made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Packard was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Zac Clow was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Dammon Wolfe was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Mt. Vernon's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Johnstown-Monroe, their record is now 10-8.
