The Broad Run Spartans will head out to square off against Independence at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Broad Run put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Westfield as they made off with a 20-5 victory. The Spartans have beaten the Bulldogs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Anna Weltens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Broad Run let Shelby Young and Riley Coffey run wild. Young went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Coffey got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Coffey a new career-high in hits (three). Alexa DeBorja also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Broad Run always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Independence made easy work of Stone Bridge on Tuesday and carried off a 17-2 win. That looming 17-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Independence yet this season.
The team relied heavily on Riley Sarracino, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Dely Keller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Broad Run now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Independence, their record is now 3-1.
Independence's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Broad Run has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Independence, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Broad Run keep running through batters, or will Independence buck the trend?
Broad Run suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Independence in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
