Brady Anderson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Zach Maine was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Price Atwood also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Canyon View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for North Sanpete, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand South Summit a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Hawks not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 11-0).
Like Canyon View, North Sanpete also got a great game from a two-way player: Preston Madsen. On the mound, Madsen tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Hudson Smith pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because North Sanpete is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise. At bat, Madsen went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Smith went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Maddex Bailey was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. North Sanpete is 3-1 when Bailey posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Canyon View's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for North Sanpete, their record now sits at 8-9.
North Sanpete's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Canyon View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. It's a different story for North Sanpete, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Canyon View's hitters?
Canyon View came up short against North Sanpete when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
