Carthage is a perfect 5-0 against Rusk since October of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bulldogs will host the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Carthage is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Carthage is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Bullard, posting a 62-7 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than 21 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Carthage's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kj Edwards, who rushed for 150 yards and three scores on only six carries. Edwards' longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jett Surratt was another key signal caller, throwing for 253 yards and four TDs on perfect 14-for-14 passing.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Carthage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 345 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Carthage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Gael Olivera, Jace Harris, and T. Williams picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Bullard's side was Zay Owens, who picked up two sacks and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Rusk played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 60-6 defeat at the hands of Athens. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-0.
Rusk dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Carthage, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
Everything came up roses for Carthage against Rusk in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 49-7 victory. In that game, the Bulldogs amassed a halftime lead of 42-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
