Seventy-First hasn't had much luck against South View recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Seventy-First will look to defend their home field against South View at 6:00 p.m. Seventy-First is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Seventy-First's offense. They came up short against Purnell Swett on Wednesday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Falcons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Seventy-First saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Carroll, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Carroll's first of the season.
Meanwhile, South View hadn't done well against Jack Britt recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. South View blew past Jack Britt 11-2. Considering the Tigers have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
David Ramsey made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because South View is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise. Ramsey was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Moncrief, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of South View's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Malachi Jones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
The win got South View back to even at 6-6. As for Seventy-First, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seventy-First has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
