After flying high against the Red Hill Salukis on Friday, the Salem Wildcats came back down to earth. Salem suffered a rough 64-40 loss at the hands of Richland County on Saturday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Salem in their matchups with Richland County: they've now lost seven in a row.
Salem's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Zimmermann, who scored 9 points. Connor Tennyson was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Salem now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Richland County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Salem's road trip will continue as they head out to face Fairfield at 4:00 p.m. on November 25th. Fairfield and Salem are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Richland County, they will head out on the road to face off against Lawrenceville at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Lawrenceville is ranked 49th, while Richland County is ranked 25th).
