After losing to the Purnell Swett Rams the last time they met, the Lake View Wild Gators decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Lake View secured a 55-50 W over Purnell Swett on Saturday. Given Lake View's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 47th in South Carolina, while Purnell Swett is ranked 241st in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake View had a senior duo take command as Gwendasia Page dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds and Jaleya Ford scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Ford has scored at least 25% of Lake View's points. Another player making a difference was Emma King, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Lake View and bumps their season record up to 10-1. As for Purnell Swett, they have fallen quite a ways from their 24-6 record last season and are now at 3-5.
Lake View's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wilson at 5:30 p.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Wilson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday. Purnell Swett will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cape Fear at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. One thing working in Cape Fear's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matches.
