After both having extra time off, the IDEA College Prep Griffins and the Idea Academy Titans will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
IDEA College Prep kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They were outmatched by IDEA Edinburg College Prep on the road and fell 65-22.
Idea Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 20 points or more this season. They blew past IDEA Pharr 46-9 at home. With Idea Academy ahead 30-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Layla Perez was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 28 points, nine rebounds, and 16 steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Idea Academy's points. Juliza Lopez was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and five steals.
IDEA College Prep's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-1. As for Idea Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3.
Everything went IDEA College Prep's way against Idea Academy in their previous matchup back in February as IDEA College Prep made off with a 43-19 victory. Does IDEA College Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Idea Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
