Walnut Hills will be up against a hot Roger Bacon team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Spartans put the hurt on Cincinnati Country Day with a sharp 8-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kyle Miller made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Owen Stewart was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Terrance Todd, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Roger Bacon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Walnut Hills let Western Hills stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Thursday but luckily Walnut Hills prevailed anyway. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Mustangs 8-6. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Andrew Gorenflo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Scruggs, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Walnut Hills' victory bumped their record up to 5-19. As for Roger Bacon, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.
Roger Bacon got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against Walnut Hills by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
