Thomasville hasn't had much luck against West Davidson recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bulldogs will take on the Dragons at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Thomasville will bounce into Thursday's game after beating East Davidson, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday.
Thomasville's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Bankhead, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mkyel Duncan was another, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, West Davidson was able to grind out a solid victory over Salisbury on Tuesday, taking the game 8-3.
West Davidson also got a great performance from Asher Jordan as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ethan McCloskey, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Tierney, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
West Davidson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
West Davidson's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Thomasville, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Thomasville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Davidson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Thomasville suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to West Davidson when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
