The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Kittanning (Pa.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Wildcats beat Deer Lakes (Russellton, Pa.) 56-14.
The Wildcats were up 28-7 at the half after taking the lead on a
Zack Crovie touchdown run in the first quarter.
Kittanning expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. KHS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Kevin Barnes touchdown pass to
Andrew Scholl.
Barnes was the top performer for the Wildcats. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
John Grabinoski played well for the Lancers. The junior wide receiver caught one touchdown.
Coming into the game Kittanning had allowed 23.8 points per game this year.
The defeat comes as a step back for Deer Lakes, which notched a 18-14 victory over Summit Academy in its previous outing. The loss snapped Deer Lakes' 3-game winning streak.
Deer Lakes (3-4) will play a WPIAL AA Allegheny game against Ford City next week, while Kittanning (4-3) will take on Valley also in a WPIAL AA Allegheny game.
