At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Dylan Luther also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Mooresville not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 9-0). They put the hurt on Greenwood with a sharp 10-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Woodmen: they've now won seven in a row.
Hudson DeVaughan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. DeVaughan was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Tyler Denny was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Liam Delp, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Greenfield-Central's record now sits at 10-7. As for Mooresville, their record is now 10-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield-Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mooresville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greenfield-Central suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Mooresville when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
