Wakeland is a perfect 5-0 against Creekview since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 6:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wakeland's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over Highland Park. Winning may never get old, but the Wolverines sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Wakeland let Claire Schreiner and Lauren McIllwain run wild. Schreiner fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while McIllwain went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs McIllwain has posted since back in April of 2024. Kaylee Kinney was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.
Wakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .806. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Creekview, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Turner 10-3 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Lauren Hernandez and Kelis Lee were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hernandez tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Lee pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Lee scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Creekview got a massive performance out of MacKenzie Martin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kaelani Rogers, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Wakeland pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.2 runs over those games. As for Creekview, their victory bumped their record up to 16-13.
Wakeland's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Wolverines have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Creekview, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wakeland continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Wakeland's way against Creekview in their previous meeting back in March, as Wakeland made off with an 18-1 win. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
