South Grand Prairie is a perfect 6-0 against Haltom since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will host the Buffalos at 6:00 p.m. South Grand Prairie will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
Last Tuesday, South Grand Prairie got the win against Grand Prairie by a conclusive 11-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jernie Nerio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, South Grand Prairie let Alyssa Huynh and Adriana Mountcastle run wild. Huynh scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Mountcastle went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jade Evans, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
South Grand Prairie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Haltom made easy work of Bowie on Friday and carried off a 16-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Buffalos in their matchups with the Volunteers: they've now won four in a row.
Haltom got a massive performance out of Kylie Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-high in RBI (two). Natalie Flores was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
South Grand Prairie's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Haltom, their win bumped their record up to 7-14.
South Grand Prairie was able to grind out a solid victory over Haltom in their previous meeting back in March, winning 4-1. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffalos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
