The Fort Morgan Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Resurrection Christian Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Fort Morgan sitting on four straight victories and Resurrection Christian on nine.
Fort Morgan let The Academy stack six runs on them in the seventh inning on Monday but luckily Fort Morgan prevailed anyway. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 11-10. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.
JJ Marquez looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Samson Ortega, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fort Morgan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Chase Prouty, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
Fort Morgan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Resurrection Christian got the win against Peak to Peak on Monday by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Brayden MacAlmon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Bennett Ruby also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Resurrection Christian pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Fort Morgan, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fort Morgan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Resurrection Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
