Baseball Recap: Greenbrier Christian Academy Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

With a playoff win on the line, Greenbrier Christian Academy rose to the challenge on Monday. They put the hurt on The Covenant Eagles with a sharp 16-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Greenbrier Christian Academy got a great performance from Luke Davenport as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Davenport has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Greenbrier Christian Academy let Josh Henkel and Jack Bonney run wild. Henkel went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases and three runs, while Bonney went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Bonney has posted since back in April. Ryan Watson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Greenbrier Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Covenant only posted an OBP of .429.

The win (which was Greenbrier Christian Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 24-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for The Covenant, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-8.

Coming up, Greenbrier Christian Academy will face off against Steward at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Covenant does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
