Alleghany has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Elkin Buckin' Elks at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alleghany will be strutting in after a victory while Elkin will be coming in after a defeat.
Alleghany scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They managed a 69-64 victory over East Wilkes. The victory was just what Alleghany needed coming off of a 80-40 defeat in their prior contest.
Alleghany's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zander Russell led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Russell has scored all season. Joshua Cerezo-Rosario was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Elkin's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They lost to Starmount at home by a decisive 58-40 margin. Elkin has struggled against Starmount recently, as their game on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Alleghany is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season. As for Elkin, they bumped their record down to 4-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Alleghany skirted past Elkin 53-51 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Alleghany repeat their success, or does Elkin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
