Volleyball Recap: Riverside Escapes with a Win

Riverside had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Leigh Panthers.

If you add up the scores from across all three sets (71-69) Riverside actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 17-25, 27-25.

Michelle Esch paced Riverside's offense, picking up 13 kills. Esch got some help from Ella Molt and her 36 assists. Finally, Esch was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Defeat or not, Leigh got some senior leadership from Reese Wietfeld and Vylet Hollatz. Wietfeld had 31 assists and nine digs, while Hollatz had 10 digs, seven kills, and three aces. Carmen Malena was another key player, getting nine digs and two aces.

Riverside has now won 17 of their last 18 games at home. That gives them an 11-2 record this season. As for Leigh, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Riverside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Archangels Catholic on the 17th. As for Leigh, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Mead on the 17th.
