Basketball Recap: Gillion Academy Beats West Oaks Academy for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gillion Academy). They walked away with a 94-84 win over the West Oaks Academy Flame on Friday. The victory was just business as usual for the Lions, who after four games remain undefeated this season.

Gillion Academy had a senior duo take command as Marcis Ponder dropped a triple-double with 17 points, 18 rebounds, and 15 blocks and Willie Burnett Iii posted 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burnett Iii has scored all season. Aaron McGee was another key player, putting up 18 points and six boards.

Gillion Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Gillion Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for West Oaks Academy, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Gillion Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 75-60 loss against Prolific Prep on the 15th. As for West Oaks Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-62 defeat against DME Academy on the 15th.
