Having just played yesterday, the Manteo Redskins will head out on the road to face off against the Columbia Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th. Hopefully Manteo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
Manteo scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They blew past Eastern Christian HomeSchool, posting a 68-30 victory on the road. That looming 68-30 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Manteo yet this season.
Manteo found their leader in underclassman Zay Williams, who scored 20 points along with three steals. The match was Williams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Granitzki, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Columbia's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Northside - Pinetown an easy 60-40 win. While losing is never fun, Columbia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 486th, while Northside - Pinetown is ranked 215th).
Manteo's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Columbia, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6.
Manteo was able to grind out a solid win over Columbia when the teams last played on December 5th, winning 64-57. The rematch might be a little tougher for Manteo since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
