Leah Pacheco made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Erica Silva was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, on Friday Centennial's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Silver. Those six runs were actually the fewest the Hawks have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Jada Lopez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Jayde Morelos and Addie Moccia did most of the damage at the plate: Morelos went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Moccia went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kendra Martinez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Las Cruces' victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Centennial, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Las Cruces has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .552. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Las Cruces couldn't quite get it done against Centennial when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 11-6. Can the Bulldawgs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
