Newton Falls is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Memorial is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Newton Falls Tigers will take on the Memorial Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Newton Falls put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Champion, posting a 66-37 victory at home. With that victory, Newton Falls brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Newton Falls relied on the efforts of Cameron Huff, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds, and Jabriel Rufai, who scored 21 points along with seven blocks and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Huff has scored all season. Landon Mcgregor was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Memorial beat Liberty 55-45 on Tuesday. Given Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while Liberty is ranked 720th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Memorial's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Teyon Harris, who scored 19 points, and David Moore, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Harris scored 15 or more points.
Newton Falls' win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Newton Falls hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50.2 points per game. However, it's not like Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 52.9 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Newton Falls came up short against Memorial in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 47-40. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Moore, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Now that Newton Falls knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
