Basketball Game Preview: Colonial Heights Colonials vs. J.R. Tucker Tigers

The Colonial Heights Colonials will take on the J.R. Tucker Tigers in a holiday battle at at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Colonial Heights will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Prince George, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Colonial Heights had just enough and edged Prince George out 62-59. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Colonials.

Colonial Heights' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cartier Coleman, who went 11 for 15 on his way to 25 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Coleman a new career-high in points. Za'Marion Mason was another key player, going 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Colonial Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, J.R. Tucker put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 victory over Godwin. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

J.R. Tucker's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Colonial Heights, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-4.

Colonial Heights strolled past J.R. Tucker in their previous matchup back in December of 2015 by a score of 60-44. Will Colonial Heights repeat their success, or does J.R. Tucker have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
