Bath County dropped their record down to 4-10 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 16-6 to the Highland Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-8 last Monday.
W Campbell and H Kirby did some serious damage despite the final result: Campbell went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Kirby went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was I Ingram, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
As for Highland, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.
On Highland's side, Zach Armstrong made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Armstrong has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Moore, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-5. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Patton Hull, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bath County will welcome Pocahontas County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Highland, they will take on Eastern Montgomery at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
