Baseball Game Preview: Hilliard Davidson Wildcats vs. Olentangy Liberty Patriots

Hilliard Davidson hasn't had much luck against Olentangy Liberty recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will challenge the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Hilliard Davidson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Hilliard Davidson's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Dublin Coffman. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Not much got past Andrew Sherman, who gave up just six hits to keep Dublin Coffman off the board. Sherman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hilliard Davidson is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Johnny DiBlasio and Will Ragland did most of the damage at the plate: DiBlasio went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Ragland went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Ragland a new career-high. Mitchell Davis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Olentangy Liberty). Everything went their way against Hilliard Bradley on Monday as they made off with a 14-0 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.

Olentangy Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Hilliard Davidson, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5.

Hilliard Davidson came up short against Olentangy Liberty in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 7-3. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
