Grossmont is 2-7 against El Capitan since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Foothillers will look to defend their home field against the Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Grossmont got the win against Monte Vista by a conclusive 14-2. The Foothillers haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Nakhia Lee made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Lee was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Aly Vega was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Riley Frankwick, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Grossmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, El Capitan was able to grind out a solid win over Steele Canyon on Friday, taking the game 11-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vaqueros.
El Capitan got a big performance out of Ciara Bernardini, who went 3-for-4 with three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Farris, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Grossmont's victory bumped their record up to 7-12-1. As for El Capitan, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
