Basketball Recap: Gateway Skates Past North Tampa Christian Academy with Ease

Gateway came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 51.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 63-26 victory over the North Tampa Christian Academy Titans. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 31 points or more this season.

Gateway got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashlynn Day out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Day's afternoon made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Marino, who went 7 of 14 en route to 22 points along with seven assists and four steals.

Gateway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Gateway's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for North Tampa Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Gateway will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hagerty at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Gateway's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Hagerty's offense will have their work cut out for them. North Tampa Christian Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Seven Rivers Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
