Morgan County hasn't had much luck against Raceland recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Rams at 12:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Morgan County challenged Lee County on Wednesday. The Cougars blew past the Bobcats 14-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Cooper Fleming was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Morgan County is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-8 otherwise. Fleming was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Morgan County got a massive performance out of Conner Fleming, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Fleming has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Grayson Hampton, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Raceland entered their tilt with Lewis County on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 8-2 victory. Considering the Rams have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bryer Parsons looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Raceland let Eli Lynd and Kadin Shore run wild. Lynd went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Shore went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Gunnar Smith was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Raceland pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan County, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morgan County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Raceland struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
