The Douglas Bulldogs will take on the ALA - Gilbert North Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Douglas has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while ALA - Gilbert North will come in with four straight victories.
Douglas is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since April 12, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Sahuarita by a score of 4-2.
Isidro Hoyos was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Douglas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Hoyos, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask ALA - Gilbert North). They were the clear victors by a 19-6 margin over Cactus on Thursday. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Bryson Landon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because ALA - Gilbert North is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Landon was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Tate Clarkson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while going 3-for-3. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Diesel Lund was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
ALA - Gilbert North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
ALA - Gilbert North pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Douglas, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7-1.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Douglas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like ALA - Gilbert North struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
