Selkirk has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 10.6 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They were completely outmatched, falling 82-24 to Odessa. Selkirk's loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
senior Marcus King went supernova for Odessa as he rushed for 284 yards and five TDs on 14 carries. This makes it eight games in a row in which King has produced a touchdown. Not surprisingly, King's sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season. junior Jett Nelson was in the mix, too, providing Odessa with two touchdowns.
A silver lining for the Rangers was the play of senior Zech Curran, who caught four passes for 104 yards and two TDs.
Selkirk's defeat pushes them down to 9-2. The victory for Odessa kept them a perfect 11-0.
Selkirk's playoff loss brings an end to their season. Odessa will take on Entiat in each of the teams' third playoff contest next week. It should be a fierce showdown as Odessa is ranked first in the MaxPreps state rankings and Entiat is ranked fourth.
