IV Section III recap October 1, 2013
North Pointe Prep fell to Tonopah Valley 46-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Raymond Brannon ran for 101 yards and caught 2 passes for 30 yards in the defeat.
Estrella Foothills made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,554 from 5,642. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 42-27 victory over Winslow last week.
Brandon Long provided a threat through the air and on the ground as River Valley bested Lake Havasu.
Long was a force in the backfield as the Dust Devils topped the Knights.
Jake Vandever was the best receiver in IV Section III this week as Wickenburg lost to Fountain Hills. Vandever tallied 2 receptions for 59 yards. Chase Ballard helped Wickenburg's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 52 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Wranglers' Charles Johnson and Cloud Fritts have proven to be a lethal combination. Johnson has thrown for 652 yards this season, while Fritts, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 19 catches for 259 yards. River Valley's Long leads the league in rushing yards with 845.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Parker takes on Wickenburg. The Broncs are in second place, while Craig Johnson's team is in fourth place.
Terry Staggs' team led IV Section III in scoring this week by notching 49 points on Lake Havasu. Long ran for 282 yards and caught 1 pass for 31 yards during the win.
