The Incarnate Word Academy Angels waltzed into their match Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Calallen 41-38. That's another feather in the cap for Incarnate Word Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Incarnate Word Academy to victory were Emma Romanczyk and Lily Brown. Romanczyk dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Brown scored seven points along with three steals and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Lily Herandez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds.
Incarnate Word Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Calallen, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
