The Chaparral Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Douglas County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Chaparral faced Mountain Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chaparral was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 69-68 to Mountain Vista.
Despite their loss, Chaparral saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gavin Carter, who scored 26 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38.2% of Chaparral's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Christian Williams was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Douglas County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 76-63 to ThunderRidge on Friday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anthony Nettles, who scored 23 points along with six assists and two steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Vaughn Baldwin, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Chaparral's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Douglas County, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
Chaparral came up short against Douglas County when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 56-52. Can Chaparral avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
