The Tremont Turks will venture away from home to take on the Brimfield Indians at 4:29 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Tremont took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Athens with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Turks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 15-0).
Maddie Feagin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Ivy Stuber was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Alaina Elston also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Brimfield came tearing into Tuesday's match with 18 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bombers an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 17 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sawyer Drury made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendyl Binder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Brooke Allen, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Brimfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive games.
Brimfield's win was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 28-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Tremont, their record now sits at 8-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Tremont hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Brimfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Tremont skirted past Brimfield 4-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Turks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
