Williams Valley is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Tri-Valley is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will host the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Williams Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Williams Valley is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Schuylkill Haven just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 7-6.
Olivia Hand was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Kobularik, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tri-Valley). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Shenandoah Valley a 23-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Amber Lettich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savanah Stiely, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Olivia Witmer was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Tri-Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .905. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Tri-Valley's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Williams Valley, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 15-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Williams Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Tri-Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Williams Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Tri-Valley in their previous matchup on April 7th, winning 10-7. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
