Valley Vista extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-7. They took a 24-19 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gila Ridge Hawks. Even if the Monsoon couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Alyse Quezada stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Taylor Rogers was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
As for Gila Ridge, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 19.5 runs this season.
On Gila Ridge's side, Kiera Espinoza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Espinoza was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Gila Ridge got a massive performance out of Alexis Figueroa, who went 1-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Figueroa a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Nacis, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Valley Vista wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 22-8 win against Mesa on the 5th. As for Gila Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-0 defeat against Cibola on the 5th.
