Milan hasn't had much luck against Southwestern recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Indians will host the Rebels at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Milan took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Jac-Cen-Del by a score of 7-4.
The team relied heavily on John McKeown, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Morgan, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwestern). Everything went their way against New Washington on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.
Braxton Lewis made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Lewis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Southwestern got a massive performance out of Jeter Chatham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Chatham is becoming a predictor of the Rebels' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Barron Welsh, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .681. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Southwestern's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Milan, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Milan came up short against Southwestern in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
