It was a good run, but the Wayne County Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 49-40 to East Hickman County. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wayne County came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while East Hickman County is ranked 281st).
Despite the defeat, Wayne County saw an underclassman step up: Cayman Camfield scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Camfield. Sayler Skelton was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wayne County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wayne County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for East Hickman County, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wayne County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Richland at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. One thing working in Richland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests. As for East Hickman County, they will head out on the road to face off against Waverly Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
